Hello AWMS subscriber :
I'm fascinated by this summer's quantum leap in consciousness around racism in America. For 400-years, ruling class white America has imposed slavery, Jim Crow, housing discrimination, gross income inequity, horrific education, denial of civil rights, and continuous police shootings and beatings on innocent black people — and suddenly we're not looking away?
Yes, of course, the video of George Floyd's murder was shocking. And yeah, everyone has suffered from self-imposed house arrest for the past three months. But what clicked to bring hundreds of thousands of people into the streets — day after day after day?
Only a few months ago, "Black Lives Matter" was a controversial slogan. Now, Republican Senator Mitt Romney shouts "Black lives matter" as he marches through Black Lives Matter Plaza In Washington D.C.
NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell says, "We were wrong" to condemn Colin Kaepernick's kneeling protest of police brutality. Hell, Trump's own Defense Secretary, General James "Mad Dog" Mattis compared his boss to Hitler in an Atlantic magazine article last week.
If we can figure out how we reached this tipping point on racism, perhaps we can end war, starvation, and homelessness too.
